Following on from the success of the Discover Penzance Map, the website provides information about Penzance and West Penwith – giving both visitors and residents a chance to explore the region’s hidden secrets, unravel the history of Penzance via the Penzance Town Trail, discover the natural beauty and wildlife of West Penwith and at the same time learning how we can look after this wonderful natural environment.

Much of West Cornwall enjoys the status of being an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ and the St Just Mining District on the north coast is proud to be a ‘World Heritage Site’.

All the activities suggested are aimed at enjoying this special region without the car – from walking or cycling the many trails to using the open top bus tour of West Penwith, there are many ideas here that are friendly to the environment and your purse!

Information is also provided about public transport to help you get to your destination without the car.

West Penwith is arguably one of the best places for archaeological discovery – megalithic monuments, hut circles and iron age hill forts remain in abundance on the moors whilst numerous engine houses and chimneys dotted across this landscape are reminders of the 18th and 19th century tin and copper mining industry. Explore this website, enjoy the beautifully illustrated interactive maps of both Penzance and West Penwith and broaden your horizons! The map and this website are a community project and could not have been achieved without the amazing support of local businesses, individuals and Cornwall Council.
